Australian Consumers Insurance Lobby and Owners Corporation Network Named Finalists in 2026 Consumer Advocacy Awards

The Australian Consumers Insurance Lobby (ACIL), together with the Owners Corporation Network (OCN), is proud to announce that the Strata Insurance Commission Reform Project was named a finalist in the Consumers Federation of Australia Consumer Advocacy Awards 2026.

A recording of the nomination presentation is available on ACIL's YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/ABPMsEvbJz0

The nomination recognises several years of collaborative consumer advocacy aimed at improving transparency, accountability and fairness within Australia's strata insurance sector.

The project has focused on exposing conflicts of interest associated with strata insurance commissions, raising public awareness of the issue, supporting regulatory investigations, engaging with governments and policymakers, and advocating for meaningful reform to better protect strata property owners.

Throughout the campaign, ACIL and OCN adopted complementary approaches. ACIL focused on public advocacy, media engagement, consumer education and regulatory action, while OCN brought extensive strata expertise, stakeholder engagement and long-standing relationships across the sector. Together, the organisations helped transform what was once a niche industry issue into a significant national consumer policy discussion.

While significant progress has been made, both organisations believe the work is not yet complete.

"The recognition as a finalist is an acknowledgement of the many volunteers, consumer advocates and organisations who have worked together to pursue better outcomes for strata owners across Australia," said Tyrone Shandiman, Chairperson of the Australian Consumers Insurance Lobby.

ACIL and OCN thank the Consumers Federation of Australia for the recognition and congratulate the other finalists for their contribution to improving outcomes for consumers.
